As I mentioned in a recent Tech Lab, Laila and I have moved away from the app-focused, technology-oriented approach that we first presented. Now we’re looking to more directly engage on the ground. She’s been contacting some Community Supported Kitchens (CSK) to see if we can potentially get involved with their work.
Also, researching for precedents or similar projects, I found this New York-based artist Colin who goes by the name Emcee CM. As part of his MOBILIZE project, he’s developed the notion of Public Domestications which aim to make “public space more comfortable, more communicative, more equitable, more accessible, and less alienating” and make “public space ours.” Most of the domestications focus on exchanges between strangers who share the same space but who are not necessarily in that space at the same time. We both liked his Recipe Exchange Box pictured below. Laila contacted him, and apparently he’s working on different projects now which he invited us to see at an upcoming show at Center for Book Arts. We’ve considered integrating this idea in some way into our finished project.
We’re both interested in adding a performative dimension to the project, so we’re still brainstorming about ideas for that aspect.
